North Yorkshire's Chief Fire Officer has spoken about the importance of new equipment for the service.
He's also emphasised the importance of maintaining specialist staff and the cost of improving their vehicles.
Jonathan Dyson says 16 new fire engines have been acquired:
"Transport and supplies is something that we are always very much aware of because, ultimately, those big red trucks that deliver the service to the public are our statutory duty. Now, they are a very specialist vehicle. We know that they cost in excess of £250,000 each time. That's something that we have to significantly planned for.
"Now, not withstanding, we have replaced 16 of those new vehicles within this MTFP, which for North Yorkshire Rescue Service is enormous and a significant investment for us, both for staff and for the public. Now where we start to meet the challenges is then the ever and evolving risks that the public faces because our vehicles and our staff, they need to meet those risks.
"So we are already trying to plan our own what the next evolution of those appliances will look like. And that includes our stuff as well because the, the specialist stuff that we need to maintain and do all of those vehicles has for North Yorkshire been very challenging to maintain recruitment of."
Mr Dyson was then asked about the location of the new vehicles:
"So we have the appliances. It's taken us some time because of various delay through suppliers and Ukraine and other significant impacts across literally the world economy there. But we have them, they are being rolled out now. When they come into service, they then have to be fitted out with the blue lights and the equipment and all those areas.
"So we have them and you will see that rolling out across the fleet. What we do with our old appliances- we then push those out for auction so we do try and maintain an income wherever physically possible."
