A man in his twenties remains in custody after a high-speed police pursuit on the A64 ended with his vehicle clipping a kerb near Scarborough.
A motorist is currently in police custody following an overnight pursuit near Scarborough.
North Yorkshire Police confirmed that the incident began just after midnight in the early hours of this morning.
According to the force, officers on patrol spotted a silver Peugeot 207 being driven erratically on the A64 eastbound near Rillington.
Police report that the car was travelling at high speed and was seen swerving between lanes on the carriageway.
When officers attempted to intervene, the driver failed to stop, prompting a police pursuit as the car continued towards Scarborough.
The chase lasted for approximately ten minutes before coming to an abrupt end. North Yorkshire Police stated that the vehicle clipped a kerb and finally came to a halt at Musham Bank.
Following the conclusion of the pursuit, officers arrested the driver, who has been identified as a man in his twenties.
He was taken into custody on suspicion of a string of offences, including dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and drink driving.
In addition to the motoring offences, North Yorkshire Police noted that the man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of class C drugs.
The suspect remains in custody at this time while investigations into the overnight incident continue.
