Business students at Scarborough Sixth Form have successfully raised £554 for Whitby-based charity WHISH to transform their garden into a therapeutic outdoor space.
Business students at Scarborough Sixth Form have proudly raised an incredible £554 in aid of WHISH following a week of exciting fundraising activities.
The events brought together the educational community in a fun and meaningful way, with all proceeds going towards improving the garden area at the charity.
WHISH is a parent-led, small charity which is completely self-funded. The organisation supports over two hundred children and young people in the Whitby and Esk Valley rural area who have a disability, Special Educational Need, or Hidden Impairment.
Children at the charity have already put together a business plan detailing exactly how they will spend the money.
They have decided to purchase seeds, plants, a bird table, bug houses, and gardening tools to create a welcoming and therapeutic outdoor space.
The week of fundraising at Scarborough Sixth Form featured a range of creative and entertaining activities designed to engage the whole college.
One such activity was a Charity Car Wash, where students spent the day washing and valeting cars for staff and fellow students, raising funds while providing a sparkling service.
Another lively event, named 'Done and Dunk'd', was held on the college field. This activity included water balloons, teacher dunking activities, popcorn, and plenty of laughter.
Finally, a 'Dare to Win' event allowed students to enjoy a bake sale alongside various games, challenges, and prize-winning activities.
The fundraising effort was described as a fantastic example of teamwork, creativity, and community spirit from everyone involved.
Jacqui Marras, a teacher at Scarborough Sixth Form, said:
"Our S6F Business students did a fantastic job raising over £500 for WHISH through fundraising events that they planned and delivered themselves. We are incredibly proud of their creativity, teamwork and commitment. We are delighted that their efforts will help support the valuable work WHISH does for local children, young people and families."
The charity notes that participating in WHISH activities enhances the health and well-being of the young people it supports, while also improving confidence and self-esteem.
They add that the organisation gives children with disabilities and impairments an opportunity to do things like their peers, allowing them to access activities most children can take for granted by learning and having fun together.
Bryony Hansell, a member of staff at WHISH, said:
"We are incredibly proud of the students for the enthusiasm and dedication they showed throughout the week. Raising £554 for WHISH is a fantastic achievement and the money will make a real difference to the garden project."
WHISH has expressed its gratitude to all the students, staff, and supporters who contributed to the success of the fundraising events.
