A flood alert has been issued from Staithes to Whitby including the tidal River Esk
The Environment Agency say the the flood alert is for the North Sea coast from Staithes to Whitby including the tidal River Esk for tomorrow morning's tide, Tuesday 13th September 2022, between 6.15am and 6.45am.
The Agency say:
"A high spring tide and onshore winds are likely to produce overtopping waves and spray along the coast. The particular area at risk is New Quay Road in Whitby. Please be careful along beaches, coastal and estuary footpaths and roads in the area, as large waves and sea spray can be dangerous. We will continue to monitor the forecast closely."

A Flood Alert is the lowest level of alert, it means that flooding is possible.
The Environment Agency advise that people in the affected area should:
- Be prepared to act on your flood plan.
- Prepare a flood kit of essential items.
- Avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.
- Farmers should consider moving livestock and equipment away from areas likely to flood.
