Emergency response times across North Yorkshire are steadily improving following a brief dip in May, despite a seasonal surge in calls during the busy summer months.

A summer demand plan is currently in action to help officers cope with the seasonal spike in emergency calls.
Staff from various supporting roles are being temporarily redeployed to the frontline to enhance the force's ability to handle the increased workload and meet the expectations of the public.
North Yorkshire's Chief Constable, Tim Forber, said:
"It's a really important area of work, and again one that is always a challenge in the summer months because, the number of calls that we've got translates into more incidents, and it's not as though we have a huge amount of extra police officers in the summer. We do have a summer demand plan so we do bring people out of various roles that support the frontline of policing to enhance our ability to to to to meet demand. But, generally there is a continued improving picture across the board."
Prompt arrivals at the scene of an incident are viewed as crucial for securing successful criminal justice outcomes and providing a higher standard of care for those affected by crime.
While performance briefly dropped earlier in the year, the long-term trend remains positive, with response rates climbing back up over recent weeks.
Chief Constable Forber added:
"We did have a bit of a dip in terms of our raw response um in May, but that's now climbing back up over a number of years, that has continued to improve and it's vital that we make sure that we have a response to calls for service that meets the expectations of the public. This is also a fact that if we get there in a timely manner, we can undertake a better, more timely investigation, which is much more likely to either lead to a criminal justice outcome, but will probably be better able to support the victim."
