More than 3,000 young people will discover opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and maths during a major three-day educational event at Scarborough Spa this October.
Future career paths in science, technology, engineering, and maths will open up for more than 3,000 young people at a major educational showcase this October.
Interactive activities and hands-on experiences will dominate Scarborough STEM Week when it returns to the Scarborough Spa on the 6th, 7th, and 8th of October for its seventeenth anniversary.
The free exhibition connects students aged between nine and nineteen from over fifty schools and colleges with around forty local, regional, and national employers, as well as education and training providers.
Organised by the Scarborough Business Ambassadors in partnership with the Business and Education Partnership NYBEP, the initiative aims to inspire the next generation into skill-based sectors.
Since the inaugural event, the show has engaged more than 45,000 students, guiding many into local and national degrees, apprenticeships, and careers across science, design, technology, engineering, and maths.
Adults seeking a career change and parents wanting to explore opportunities alongside their children can attend a dedicated public careers session on the opening evening. The open event runs from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday the 6th of October, with no prior booking required.
A prestigious business dinner, sponsored by Made Smarter, will follow on Wednesday the 7th of October, bringing together industry leaders and educators.
Tutors and students from Scarborough TEC’s catering course will prepare and serve the evening's menu. The college's highly regarded catering programme has previously helped create fourteen of the country’s Michelin-star chefs.
Professional ocean sailor Pip Hare will take to the stage as the keynote speaker for the evening. As one of only four women to start and compete in the Vendee Globe, she will share stories of extreme adversity, resilience, and the intense self-sufficiency required to act as her own engineer, electrician, and mechanic during a single-handed, non-stop circumnavigation of the planet.
The dinner will also see several awards presented to young STEM achievers and winning exhibitors. Honours include a memorial trophy dedicated to Vaugn Bulmer, the former Head of Coach Engineering at Plaxton, which hosted the area's very first engineering week.
The three-day showcase relies heavily on industry backing, with McCain Foods returning as the headline sponsor alongside support from North Yorkshire Council and Anglo American. Other key sponsors include Derwent Training, Lloyd Dowson, SWC Trade Frames, KD Recruitment, and Dale Power, while the keynote speaker is sponsored by Integra Electrical Contractors and Ooh Hula Hoop Marketing.
Chris Cooke, Infrastructure and Compliance Manager at McCain Foods, said:
"McCain Foods GB Ltd are proud to be headline sponsors for STEM Week 2026.
After supporting the event for the last 16 years McCain understands the value this event brings to the local schools, colleges & businesses and plays a valued part in providing career aspirations to our engineers of the future.
The event is also a real driver for the local economy, displaying the need for 'home grown' talent within our local industries and the many companies within the Scarborough area who support this worthwhile event."
Simon Bull, Chair of Scarborough Business Ambassadors, said:
"We are very grateful to all our sponsors without which the event wouldn’t be possible."
