Scarborough College October Open Day

Scarborough College Open Day to showcase outdoor learning, specialist teaching and academic success.

Families along the Yorkshire coast are being invited to discover a different kind of education this autumn as Scarborough College opens its doors for its annual Open Day on Saturday 3 October.

Running from 10am to 1pm, the event will give prospective families the chance to explore the College’s distinctive offer for children aged 3 to 18, from Little Owls pre-school and Prep (primary provision) through to Senior School, Sixth Form and boarding.

Set on a beautiful site overlooking South Bay, Scarborough College has built a reputation for combining academic ambition with an impressive extra-curricular focus, where outdoor learning, sporting performance and personal development all play a central role.

The Open Day is designed to give families a real feel for the school in action, with the opportunity to meet pupils and staff, tour the campus and discover what makes a Scarborough College education different.

A key part of that experience is the College’s commitment to outdoor education. In the Prep School, pupils benefit from Yorkshire Pebbles, a programme that brings learning beyond the classroom through experiences such as Forest School, beach-based learning and outdoor challenge. In the Senior School, the Yorkshire Grit programme builds confidence, resilience and teamwork through activities including surfing, paddleboarding, climbing and coastal exploration. These programmes are designed not as add-ons, but as a core part of school life, helping pupils develop character, independence and a sense of adventure alongside their academic studies.

Families attending the Open Day will also be able to find out more about the College’s academic approach and outcomes. Scarborough College places a strong emphasis on specialist teaching and on helping each pupil make exceptional progress.

In recent years, the school has seen particularly strong value-added performance at GCSE while Sixth Form students continue to achieve impressive outcomes in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The College’s most recent IB results saw students secure places at a wide range of destinations, including Russell Group universities and competitive courses in the UK and overseas.

As well as touring the classrooms and outdoor spaces, visitors will have the chance to explore the College’s boarding houses, sports facilities and creative spaces, and to speak to staff about life at the school from Nursery and Reception through to Year 7 and Sixth Form entry. Whether families are considering independent education for the first time, looking ahead to Senior School, or exploring options for Sixth Form, the Open Day offers a chance to see the full breadth of opportunity available.
