Cayton Cricket Club Secures Funding For New Mobile Practice Nets

A new mobile practice net has been purchased for a Scarborough cricket pitch following a one thousand pound donation from a national housebuilder.

A new mobile practice net will help preserve the cricket pitch at a Scarborough sports field following a £,1000 donation.

Cayton Cricket Club secured the funding from national housebuilder Persimmon to purchase the mobile equipment for their ground at the McCain Sports Field on Church Lane.

Players will now be able to practice away from the main wicket. The new nets can be moved to various locations around the ground, which helps to protect the main pitch from excessive wear and tear.

The funding was awarded through the housebuilder's Community Champions initiative, a scheme designed to provide financial support to local charities, schools, sports clubs, and community groups.

Representatives from the cricket club formally received the cheque alongside North Yorkshire Councillor Roberta Swiers.

Cayton Cricket Club Secretary Claire Woodhead said:

"We are extremely lucky and appreciative to have been awarded the grant. The club will benefit immensely from this."

Graham Whiteford of Persimmon Yorkshire said:

"It was a pleasure to meet Claire and the team at Cayton Cricket Club alongside Councillor Swiers.

We’re always delighted to be able to support clubs and local organisations like Cayton Cricket Club who rely so much on volunteers giving up their own time to keep clubs like this running.

We hope this donation goes some way to helping support the effort that Claire and everyone else at the club put in."
