It's a day of Music and Poetry in South Cliff Gardens' Italian Gardens.
South Cliff Gardens will welcome local poets and musicians for a summer of live performance in the recently-restored Italian Gardens.
Performances will be taking place every Sunday in August when the Scarborough Wellbeing Choir will be opening proceedings at 12 noon, with more music to come from brilliant folk act Toein’ in the Dark and performances from local poets Wendy Pratt and Rachel Glass.
North Yorkshire Council are also thrilled to announce an extra date on the final Saturday of the month when local favourites Raven will be closing their diverse program supported by singer-songwriter John Watton and featuring performances from the Scarborough Poetry All Stars.
These events have been organised as part of a comprehensive summer program aimed at celebrating the completion of the regeneration works, reconnecting residents and visitors with this stunning public space and supporting local creative talent. They are made possible by funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery Community Fund joint Parks for People programme, thanks to National Lottery players.
Music has been coordinated by Gemma Alexander – Community Engagement Officer for South Cliff Gardens whilst the poetry line-up has been curated by local poet and performer Felix Hodcroft, who will be comparing the live program along with fellow poet Rob Tyson.
Felix says:
“There's nothing as exciting as trying to convey the heart of a good poem - its fresh perspective, its emotional power, its drama - and watching your listeners 'get it'! So I'm thrilled to be performing at South Cliff Gardens this year."
Gemma added:
“There couldn’t be a more perfect backdrop for an afternoon of live music and poetry than the Italian Gardens with the historic shelter providing a perfect stage from which to showcase some of Scarborough’s most talented performers. We are delighted to be able to support local artists and to welcome visitors to enjoy this free event in the heart of our beautifully restored gardens.”
Full details for all of these events can be found on the gardens' website.
