A temporary numerical disadvantage following a head injury to Jake Hull proved costly as Scarborough Athletic fell to a single-goal defeat against Telford.
A single second-half goal condemned Scarborough Athletic to defeat in their National League North clash against Telford on Saturday.
The decisive moment arrived while the team was temporarily reduced to ten men, a situation that has left the club's management frustrated. Defender Jake Hull was forced to leave the field for a mandatory one-minute period after receiving treatment for a head injury.
The temporary dismissal is part of a competition rule requiring players who receive medical attention on the pitch to step to the sidelines. During this brief window, the opposition capitalised on the numerical advantage to secure the victory.
Scarborough Athletic boss Jono Greening told SAFC TV that the timing of the goal and the circumstances surrounding the injury rule were deeply frustrating:
"Yeah, it's a difficult one to take, really, because I think we've been stitched up by that rule that if you get treatment on the pitch, you have to go off for a minute. You know, Hully takes one in his face from 6 yd out, blast it straight in his face. He gets treatment on the pitch because he's feeling hazy, dizzy, whatever you want to call it. And he has to come off the pitch um for one whole minute and uh you know, I think we get 10 or 30 seconds into the minute, and and they've scored, but it's still disappointing because, you know, we still we can still we went to a 4-4-1, and you know, we put back to right back he's in centre-half, so there shouldn't have been any problems, but they just found that little gap."
Despite reorganising the team's formation to cope with the missing player, the defensive line was ultimately breached. The manager acknowledged that the remaining players should have been able to handle the pressure, but Telford managed to find a way through the adjusted setup to claim the points.
The Hull clash followed a collision involving Alex Wiles and a Telford player in the first half which saw both players off the field for treatment.
