Whitby Town threw away a two-goal lead to suffer a devastating FA Cup defeat against Ashton United, prompting the manager to demand immediate squad changes.
FA Cup hopes have been shattered for Whitby Town following a devastating second-half collapse.
A commanding two-goal advantage was wiped out during Saturday's clash with fellow Northern Premier League Premier side Ashton United, leaving the squad and management searching for answers.
The Blues looked well on course for a cup victory during the first hour of the match. Ben Turner opened the scoring early on to give the home side the perfect start.
The advantage was then doubled when skipper Stu Rose connected with an impressive header, putting the team in a seemingly comfortable position.
However, the match turned upside down as Ashton United launched a relentless comeback. Frontman James Hardy proved to be the architect of the collapse, netting a stunning hat-trick in the space of just fourteen minutes to completely flip the game on its head.
The visitors continued to press their advantage, making it four with eleven minutes left on the clock. An injury-time fifth goal sealed the rout and completed a miserable afternoon for the home side.
Blues boss Lee Bullock and assistant Denny Ingram are now preparing to take decisive action to turn the situation around.
Speaking to Whitby Town TV after the match, Bullock expressed his deep frustration with the squad's performance across the pitch:
"I've been fortunate enough to to play a short while in the Championship, and I've played every level down to coaching college football. I've never seen worse goals than what I'm seeing at the minute. Defensively, we are weaker than any college team I've ever done. It's not working. Middle of the park, no better. Can't get a decent grouping going in there. And that's some of them are doing a good shift, but as a three, a four, whatever it's been, nowhere near good enough. Again, lads that I brought in, for the time to try and change it around. If they're not willing, that's fair enough. But if they are, me and Denny now have to change it up, have to get some new faces in, simple as."
