The owners of Skirlington Coast holiday park have joined fellow hospitality industry leaders in backing a campaign to stop the Government launching a UK Holiday Tax.
The proposed visitor levy would be managed by regional mayors and would see families pay more for every break they take in this country.
Unity Holidays are urging people to email their MP and express their objections to the proposed tax, as part of a campaign led by UK Hospitality.
Under the proposed tax, each night of any holiday taken in the UK would be liable for an additional charge which could see the price of a summer holiday for a family of four increased by more than £100.
Unity say their understanding is that the tax could be applied as a flat 5% rate on the cost of the holiday, or see a levy of £2 per person per night, including children.
Unity Holidays say the issues caused by the tax should be a concern not just for holidaymakers and the hospitality sector, but also for any area of the country that counts on tourism to help support local businesses.
Unity Beach resort director Darren Cavill said:
“Around three million people rely on hospitality for their jobs, and many are young or part-time workers at holiday parks, hotels, cafes, pubs, restaurant and attractions,”
“It’s not just seaside towns or major cities that would suffer, holiday spending helps keep rural villages and local communities alive all over the UK.”
