The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice across the Yorkshire & Humber region, including coastal areas
The warning is in effect from 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, to 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
The Met Office warns that icy stretches are likely to form on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths, increasing the risk of slips and falls. The icy conditions are expected to develop during Wednesday evening and persist overnight into Thursday as temperatures fall below freezing. Sleet or snow showers may also occur, particularly near the coast.
Residents are advised to take precautions to ensure their safety during the icy conditions. The Met Office recommends allowing extra time for journeys, as rushing increases the risk of accidents. When walking, it is advisable to use pavements along main roads, which are more likely to have been treated for ice. Similarly, cyclists should stick to main roads for safer travel. Before travelling, it's recommended to check road conditions for drivers and bus and train timetables for those using public transportation. Adjust travel plans if necessary.
