Construction crews are putting the finishing touches on the brand-new multi-storey car park located in Beck Hill, with the development reaching its final stage ahead of the autumn launch.
The major infrastructure project sits prominently between Manor Street and Hilderthorpe Road. Planners state the prime location will provide motorists with instant pedestrian access to the heart of Bridlington’s retail precinct.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council invested the multi-million-pound sum to create the facility, directly targeting historic parking challenges in the area. Town centre footfall is expected to receive a significant boost from the development, which aims to relieve local traffic congestion during busy peak seasons.
The new facility has been designed to support local businesses year-round and serves as a crucial piece of the wider town centre regeneration strategy.
Motorists arriving at the site will be greeted by a striking architectural exterior. Designed on behalf of the local authority by architecture firm Carey Jones Chapman Tolcher, and built by principal contractor Henry Boot Construction, the building features vertical twisted fins. Council officials say these unique exterior elements are specially crafted to resemble ocean waves, offering a visual nod to Bridlington’s iconic coastal landscape.
Drivers of electric vehicles will be able to utilise dedicated charging bays, a move designed to support sustainable travel across East Yorkshire. Furthermore, thirty-one dedicated accessible bays have been strategically placed within the structure to ensure convenient entry and exit for those requiring additional space.
The surrounding environment has also seen investment alongside the main construction work. The project has delivered vital improvements to the nearby Gypsey Race watercourse, enhancing the local green area that connects directly to the Gypsey Race Park.
Council representatives have confirmed that an official ribbon-cutting ceremony involving community leaders and project partners will take place in October ahead of the car park opening to motorists.
Councillor Anne Handley, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

Motorists will be able to check parking charges, operating hours, and payment methods via the council's website closer to the launch date. Officials have confirmed that the site will support digital app payment options alongside traditional methods, significantly increasing town centre capacity for shoppers, workers, and visitors.
