Whitby Town fell to a 2-1 home defeat against Lancaster City after squandering an early lead at the Towbar Express Stadium.

It was the visitors who started the brightest and they almost immediately showed their attacking intent. After just two minutes, Nathan Caine drove forward from midfield and worked himself into a shooting position, but his low effort drifted wide of the target.
Whitby had to be patient but began to press as the half went on. Stan Hewitt nearly produced a moment to remember in the 16th minute, carrying the ball forward before trying his luck from long range with the wind at his back. The ambitious effort had the crowd interested but ultimately flew wide.
The breakthrough arrived in the 24th minute and it was a goal worthy of opening the scoring. Callum Hickman burst forward with pace on the counter-attack before finding Joey Phuthi on the right flank. Phuthi delivered an inviting cross into the penalty area where Stuart Rose arrived at the back post to finish clinically, giving Whitby a 1-0 advantage.
But Lancaster drew level just two minutes when a corner caused chaos inside the Whitby penalty area, with Jim Craig reacting quickest amid a crowded goalmouth scramble to force the ball home and make it 1-1.
Dom Lawson tried his luck from distance in the 41st minute but failed to trouble Jack Norton in the Town goal, firing well off target, before Phuthi nearly put Whitby back in front. The wideman cut inside and forced Lancaster goalkeeper Brad Kelly into a smart save at his near post, a stop that would prove significant as the visitors levelled before the interval to send the sides into the break all square at 1-1.
The second half began in frustrating fashion for the Seasiders. Lancaster completed the turnaround in the 53rd minute when Charlie Bailey found space on the edge of the area and curled an excellent strike into the bottom corner from range after escaping his marker, Leon Parker.
Bailey almost added a his second moments later, but this time his low effort from distance took a deflection and rolled wide of the post.
As the game edged towards its conclusion, the Blues huffed and puffed in search of an equaliser. However, despite their efforts and a couple of semi-promising attacking situations, they were unable to find the breakthrough needed to rescue a point.
