Whitby Town Council has announced that it is seeking contractors to provide festive lighting for the town centre for the next three years, covering the Christmas seasons from 2025 to 2027
The Council intends to appoint a contractor who can supply, install, and remove all necessary rented lighting, as well as decorate three Christmas trees annually.
According to a document released by Whitby Town Council, the selected company will be responsible for illuminating various key areas within the town. This includes lighting columns along Langbourne Road, New Quay Road, and St Anne’s Staith, as well as providing fittings that will span Baxtergate, Lion Bank, Church Street, and adorn the face of the Old Town Hall. Furthermore, the contractor will be tasked with dressing Christmas trees located at the end of Baxtergate, Bridge Street, and Bagdale. These trees are estimated to be around 15 feet in height.
The terms of the tender require the chosen contractor to manage the entire process, encompassing the hire, maintenance, storage, transportation, installation, and subsequent removal of the Christmas decorations on an annual basis. The Council also stipulates that quotes should include the cost of any necessary repairs during the period the lights are displayed.
In terms of service requirements, Whitby Town Council emphasises the need for a rapid response in emergency situations, with a mandatory attendance on-site within 2 hours. For all other call-outs, the contractor must be able to attend within 24 hours. The tender also requires potential contractors to explain their procedures for remedying faulty equipment and the expected timeframe for such repairs.
The Council has indicated that the Christmas lights switch-on is provisionally scheduled for the evening of Friday, 14th of November, with the final time to be confirmed. The removal of the lights will take place as close as possible to Twelfth Night. Interested parties are required to submit a quotation for the entire three-year arrangement.
To be considered for the contract, prospective contractors must demonstrate a proven track record in similar projects, supported by relevant evidence.
The Town Council has also expressed openness to considering alternative suggestions for lighting locations.
