Rescue teams from Hornsea and Bridlington worked with Humberside Police officers to carry out the rescue.
On Friday 30 May 2025, HM Coastguard teams from Bridlington and Hornsea were called to Skipsea following reports of two people cut off by the tide at the base of the cliffs.
Upon arrival, the Officer in Charge carried out an assessment of the scene and determined that a rope rescue was the most appropriate method to ensure the safe rescue of both individuals. Rope rescue technicians from the coastguard teams were deployed to the cliff bottom to make contact with the casualties.
In a coordinated response, a Humberside Police officer was lowered to the casualties’ location with the Coastguard technician to provide reassurance and assess their condition. This allowed responders to confirm the wellbeing of both individuals and ensure they were ready to be safely extracted.
Bridlington Coastguard Rescue Team said:
"Both casualties were successfully brought to safety without injury thanks to the skill and professionalism of the coastguard rope rescue teams.
This incident highlights the importance of strong, well-practised partnerships between emergency services. The collaborative working between HM Coastguard and Humberside Police ensured a rapid and effective response, underlining the value of joint training and inter-agency coordination in emergency situations.
“This rescue demonstrates how vital partnership working is in ensuring the safety of the public. The seamless coordination between our teams and Humberside Police allowed us to bring two people to safety efficiently and safely. We’re proud of the professionalism shown by all involved.”
In a coastal emergency, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
