PQA Scarborough students are getting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform a brand-new musical in an exclusive pilot partnership with the British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT).
The new collaboration marks the first time a PQA Academy will perform one of BYMT's original musicals outside of their own productions.
BYMT, the UK’s leading new musical theatre company for young people, has been creating opportunities for young performers since 2003. They work with industry professionals to produce innovative musicals, and their alumni include stars like Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Lauren Samuels, and Lucy Griffiths.
BYMT's mission is to offer young people transformative experiences in musical theatre through inclusive and collaborative productions. They are dedicated to supporting the development of young people and early career creatives from all backgrounds.
PQA Scarborough is the first academy in the PQA network to participate in this pilot partnership, giving students access to fresh, innovative content and supporting their growth as young performers. Principal James Aconley is thrilled about the partnership, stating:
"We are absolutely delighted to be the first PQA to pilot this partnership with British Youth Music Theatre on this exciting new venture.
Our students will have the chance to work with professional writers, composers, and directors to bring this musical to life. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to develop their skills and be part of something truly special".

Rehearsals will start this month, with performances planned for later in the year. Students will be involved in an exciting creative process, using the script and rehearsal resources provided by BYMT.
Any young performer aged 6-18 who wants to be part of this unique opportunity is encouraged to sign up for a free taster session at PQA Scarborough.
PQA Scarborough offers high-quality performing arts training in drama, film & TV, and musical theatre. They are dedicated to fostering young talent and providing students with opportunities to learn and grow in a supportive environment.
