South Cliff Gardens and Peasholm Park have scooped top honours at the annual Yorkshire in Bloom awards, celebrating the dedication of local volunteers and parks staff.
Two beloved Scarborough parks have secured top regional horticulture honours following a summer of rigorous judging.
South Cliff Gardens and Peasholm Park received Platinum accolades during the annual Yorkshire in Bloom awards, recognising the exceptional efforts required to maintain the coastal town's green spaces.
The prestigious annual competition encourages communities of all sizes to make positive and lasting improvements to their local environments.
Judging for the regional campaign took place throughout July, with visiting assessors evaluating locations on three strict priorities.
Inspectors focused closely on horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility, and community participation before deciding the final grades for each entrant.
Council officials confirmed the local successes this week following a dedicated awards ceremony.
The local authority regularly works alongside community groups to support independent submissions, while also entering its own managed sites into the contest.
The official presentation ceremony took place in Tadcaster on Thursday, September 24.
Members of the council’s parks team attended the celebratory event alongside representatives from various dedicated community groups who have contributed to the region's floral displays.
Yorkshire in Bloom operates as the regional body representing the wider Britain in Bloom campaign, which is organised nationally by the Royal Horticultural Society.
GROW Scarborough and Bridlington Railway Station also featured among the recognised community projects on the official winners' list.
North Yorkshire Council officials believe the scheme brings significant benefits to the Yorkshire Coast, from driving visitor numbers to promoting sustainable practices.
North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for parks and grounds, Councillor Malcolm Taylor, said:
"We would like to congratulate the hard work of our parks team as well as volunteer groups who dedicate their time to keep green spaces tidy.
"The annual awards encourage and develop community spirit and civic pride whilst promoting responsibility for planting, cleanliness and maintenance.
"In turn, this can boost the local economy through increased tourism, encourages voluntary work and cooperation between community groups, and helps to address issues such as sustainability, recycling, minimising waste and energy conservation."
