Bridlington Town will host Whitby Town in a highly anticipated Yorkshire Coast derby in the FA Trophy this weekend as both sides vie for local bragging rights.
A highly anticipated Yorkshire Coast derby will take centre stage in the FA Trophy as Bridlington Town prepare to face Whitby Town at their HDM Energies Stadium.
It's a first competitive meeting between the sides since September 2009, when Whitby won 1-0, at the same venue, in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round, though they did lock horns in a pre-season clash, at Brid, in July.
The Seasiders will be desperately aiming to recover from a recent setback on the road. Bridlington Town suffered a 4-2 defeat away at Silsden last week, a difficult result that abruptly halted a strong run of three consecutive victories.
The recent loss has left a mark on the squad, who are now looking to channel their frustrations and bounce back in the upcoming derby.
Bridlington Town assistant manager Mark Hotte acknowledged the emotional toll the recent defeat has taken on the dressing room, noting how quickly fortunes can change in football:
"Yeah, I hope so. I think the lads are in the whole are disappointed. They've gone from great highs to a very big low."
This week, Brid have signed 17-year-old Leeds United defender Miller Megson, who may debut in the Trophy tie.
Meanwhile, the fixture presents an unusual situation for the coaching staff of the visiting team.
Whitby Town assistant manager Denny Ingram spends his weekdays coaching with the Bridlington Town academy side. Despite his close ties to the opposition's youth setup and his role in developing their future talent, the coach insists there is absolutely no conflict of interest when the two senior sides meet on the pitch.
The Whitby assistant expects a challenging encounter against a well-organised Bridlington team, acknowledging the Seasiders' recent form prior to last week's defeat:
"It'll be a tough place to go. It'll be a tough game. Scott [Kerr, Manager] will have them well organised. They've been on a decent little run of run of form themselves. Obviously had a disappointment on Saturday but look, I know all about them. Obviously, I work within the academy. So, you know, my job Monday to Friday is to produce the next first team players, but come Saturday, I work for Whitby Town, simple as that. And I'll be going all out to make sure we get the the right result."

Winger Steels has signed on a month's loan from Northern League First Division outfit Bishop Auckland.
As well as a place in the competition's first round proper, the winners will receive £2,450 and the losers £650.
If scores are level, there will be a penalty shoot-out to decide who progresses.
