Scarborough Athletic Boss Urges Bravery As Boro Face Merthyr Town

Scarborough Athletic manager Jono Greening is calling for his side to show bravery in the final third as they host Merthyr Town in the National North this Saturday.

Home advantage awaits Scarborough Athletic this Saturday as the squad returns to National North action.

Boro will battle Merthyr Town at 3pm, looking to find a breakthrough following a goalless draw away at Macclesfield on Tuesday evening.

Tactical challenges are coming to the forefront for the team, with concerns emerging that opposing sides may increasingly adopt defensive setups to stifle Scarborough's attacking momentum.

Manager Jono Greening addressed the possibility of teams sitting back and putting men behind the ball when speaking to SAFC TV after the Macclesfield stalemate.

Jono Greening said:

"Yeah, I don't know. I think it all depends on how the opposing manager wants to play. We like to play good football and I think we're quite an attacking threat. We like to get the ball out wide, we like full backs bombing on. We like wide men to come into pockets as well and cause problems. And other teams play differently. So you know, if teams do come and do this to us again, we need to find a way of breaking them down. It's like when England play against lower opposition nations. A lot of teams do that to England and I'm one watching it on on the sofa, saying 'Ah just, you know, go and do something, go and do something.' But it's difficult. You're talking about the best players in the world. We need to work on it, we need to be a little bit brave in the final third. We know what we're doing and listen, it's not lack of effort."

If you really can't make it, live commentary of the match will be broadcast on This Is The Coast Extra.

Kick off at Scarborough Sports Village is 3pm.
