Thousands of spectators are expected as the annual Goldwings Light Festival returns to Scarborough today, bringing spectacular motorcycle displays, road closures, and a seaside drone finale.
Spectacular illuminated motorcycles and a dazzling drone display will take over the seafront as the Scarborough Goldwings Light Festival takes place today.
The popular free event is set to draw large crowds to the Yorkshire Coast, combining daytime attractions with an evening procession of highly decorated Honda Goldwing motorcycles.
Festivities kick off at midday with a static Goldwings display on the West Pier, allowing visitors to get a close look at the impressive machines until 4pm.
The main illuminated action starts at 8pm when the motorcycles will parade along the seafront, with Paddy and the team on site from 6pm to build the atmosphere.
To ensure the safety of spectators and participants, several key routes along the seafront will be closed to traffic.
Foreshore and Sandside, Marine and Royal Albert Drive, and Eastborough from Globe Street to the seafront will be shut from 7:30pm until 10pm.
North Yorkshire Council officials stated that these roads may be reopened earlier if circumstances allow, and they have thanked the public for their understanding of the safety requirements for the community event.
Motorists are also facing parking restrictions, with the West Pier Car Park closed to both the public and permit holders until 10pm tonight.
Existing permit holders have been redirected to alternative long-stay car parks, including Marine Drive, Friarsway, and South Bay Underground.
A spectacular drone display over the South Bay will provide a dramatic finale to the festival at approximately 9:30pm.

Danielle Scott is one of the organisers behind the festival. She said:
"I think when you when you organize an event like this, you you sort of go on autopilot and you focused on the event itself. But when the event comes, people say to me, 'How do you feel on the day?' And it's like you don't have time to feel anything. Because from the minute I'm there at like 6:30 in the morning to leaving at 10:00 p.m. at night, the day just goes nowhere, and you sort of don't have chance to take in everything going on around you. So then, when you look back at the photos and videos that are posted on Facebook the next day, you sort of think, 'Wow, what have I actually missed?' So, yeah, it was it was definitely a chance that if anybody has a chance to go in it, I would say do it."
The festival is once again being held in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, aiming to raise vital funds for the life-saving charity.
Danielle Scott explained how the charity's team will be engaging with the public throughout the event and said it's a big weekend for them:
"It is, and they will be with us all day and night. During the day, they will be on the pier with myself. They'll be they're selling um, raffle tickets for their new Honda NC750X bike that they are currently doing. Hopefully, we'll also have a mini quad bike on raffle. And again, the volunteers will be out in force in the evening with their buckets. So every donation, no matter how big or small, will help the charity massively."
