The Stephen Joseph Theatre’s co-production of Brassed Off, seen at the Scarborough Theatre in August, has been nominated for a major award.
The nomination comes hot on the heels of the SJT winning the UK Theatre Award for Best Play for Children and Young People for last Christmas’s Beauty and the Beast.
Brassed Off, a co-production with Theatre by the Lake and the Octagon Theatre Bolton, is in the running for Best Regional Production at the WhatsOnStage Awards, which will be announced on 9 February.

Adapted for the stage by Paul Allen from the screenplay by Bridlington-born Mark Herman, who also directed the smash hit 1996 film, Brassed Off was directed by Liz Stevenson and performed by Daneka Etchells, Maxine Finch, Joey Hickman, Joanna Holden, Matt Ian Kelly, Greg Patmore, Russell Richardson, Barney Taylor, Andrew Turner and Hannah Woodward.
The Brassed Off creative team was Simon Kenny (set and costume design); Matthew Malone (musical supervisor, arrangements and additional compositions); Johanna Town (lighting design); Russell Ditchfield (sound design); Chi San Howard (movement director); Alice Roberts (costume supervisor); Callum Berridge (associate director); Danny Vavrečka (associate lighting designer); Francesca Warren (music preparation); Bethan Clark (fight director); Natalie Grady (dialect coach); Tom Harrison (brass band consultant) and Olivia Barr CDG (casting director).
