Bridlington Town look to remain outside of the Northern Premier League East drop-zone come 5pm on Saturday, when they make their third consecutive away trip, this time to Liversedge.
In the previous two away games, Mike Thompson’s side earned a 4-1 victory against Heaton Stannington, thanks to a Michael Coulson hattrick, and a 2-0 win over Emley AFC.
The three points against Heaton Stannington moved the Seasiders out of the relegation zone, though they had a week without a game before the Emley trip, during which all the teams around them played and won their games in hand.
As a result, Bridlington dropped back into 19th, however, they were able to rise two places following the most recent victory against the league’s third-placed side.
March’s Bridlington Window Cleaning Company Player of the Month Ahmed Salam opened the scoring in the first half despite a dominant Emley performance, before Danny Earl doubled the advantage in the second half.
Earl returned to the starting line-up in place of Nathan Dyer, though he was forced on to replace Josh Barrett after just 17 minutes. Matty Dixon also returned to the matchday squad following a four-week layoff with a hamstring problem.
After the game, head coach Thompson said:
“The result was outstanding. I think we weren’t happy in the first half, we addressed it to the boys at half time that we gave Emley a bit of too much respect regarding their league position. We came out in the second half, and to be honest I’m over the moon.”
Bridlington Town have now picked up five victories in their last six games, and as a result are top of the form table. Meanwhile, their next opponents Liversedge are the most out-of-form side in the division, with just three points from a possible 18.
They came in a 2-1 victory over bottom-of-the-table side Sheffield FC, who have since confirmed their relegation to the Northern Counties East League Premier Division. However, Liversedge then picked up a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Ashington AFC.
As a result, Ryan Toulson’s side dropped one place into 21st, and with 32 points are 10 away from safety with only four games remaining.
