Hornsea Inshore Rescue is hosting its first Christmas Lights Party tonight.
The event will take place at the Hornsea Inshore Rescue station on the seafront in Hornsea. The event will start at 5 pm on Friday December 13th and will feature a variety of free activities, including:
- Visiting Santa Claus and receiving an official 'Nice List' certificate.
- Participating in crafts with elves.
- Festive foam fun & games.
- Carols & Music in the Courtyard.
- Decorated tractor & lights display.
While the event is free, donations are welcome and will go towards supporting Hornsea Inshore Rescue. The event is being held as a way to bring the community together during the holiday season. Coxswain Steve Hall says they hope the event will grow in the coming years.
The rescue service says it has had an average year in terms of call-outs. The year started slowly due to cold weather in March and April but picked up once the weather warmed up. The team has responded to a diverse range of calls, including towing yachts, rescuing people from cliffs, and assisting broken-down jet skis.
Steve says recruitment has been good, with many people interested in joining the team.
The organisation is always looking for new members, especially those who work from home. No experience is necessary to join, as training is provided. Morale within the organisation is said to be "fantastic", as the team enjoys the work and the camaraderie.
Fundraising continues to be a challenge, the organisation is independent and not part of the RNLI. However, Steve says the community has been very supportive, with events such as the 30th-anniversary celebration and rattle can collections raising much-needed funds. The organisation also relies on the hard work of the Hornsea Inshore Rescue Fundraisers to help keep the service afloat.
Steve Hall highlighted that the organisation is always in need of funds to cover the costs of equipment and maintenance.
Tonight's Christmas Lights Party is being billed as a fun way to bring the community together. The event starts at 5pm at Hornsea Lifeboat Station.
