Dedicated bus services will connect patients to the new Community Diagnostic Centre in Eastfield following concerns over its out-of-town location.
Patients travelling to a new medical facility outside of Scarborough town centre will be supported by dedicated public transport routes.
The new Community Diagnostic Centre has opened in Eastfield, providing a much-needed boost to local healthcare services. The facility was originally planned for a central location within Scarborough, but the out-of-town site was ultimately chosen, sparking initial concerns about accessibility for residents without private transport.
Extra bus services, specifically the 7 and 7A routes, have now been secured to connect patients directly to the doors of the new diagnostic hub.
Scarborough and Whitby MP Alison Hume shared her thoughts on the development with This is the Coast, highlighting the importance of the new transport links to the site after raising concerns about the location eighteen months ago:
"The community diagnostic centre is a long time coming for Scarborough. I mean, it was supposed to be in the town center, but for some reason, they couldn't find a place for it, and it is at Eastfield, so I raised with the ICB, the um Integrated Care Board, as soon as that came out uh about 18 months ago, you've got to have a bus service. And I'm really pleased that we're actually working with the with the council, with the Mayor, David Skaith and with Schneider, that they've they've um put on extra bus services, the 7 and the 7A, which means that people can get to the, you know, the CD"
The introduction of the new bus routes follows collaboration between local authorities, including Mayor David Skaith, the Integrated Care Board, and transport providers. The concerted push for better connectivity aims to ensure the Eastfield facility can effectively serve the local population without leaving anyone isolated.
The delivery of the new diagnostic centre is expected to play a significant role in reducing healthcare delays for local residents, providing quicker access to vital tests and scans.
Alison Hume added:
"And I think that's great news and it and it is going to really help speed up diagnosis. And also coupling with the fact that waiting lists are falling under the Labour government, I think people are starting to see some improvements, you know, two years in, you know, I hope that we're delivering for the people of Scarborough but it is it's good when things like this, you know, the community diagnostic centre open. We need it. And, um, but the buses, that was, you know, a good bit of pushing from various people to get that bus service on."
