Boro were edged out in Lancashire on Saturday.
Jono Greening's men made much of the early running with Mo Fadera striking straight at the Chorley keeper and then firing over when well placed.
At the other end, the hosts rolled narrowly wide of Ryan Whitley's post but it ended 0-0 at the break.
The match roared into life just before the hour as Rio Allan went through on goal and slotted in his fifth goal in three games to delight the travelling fans.
However, within six minutes, Chorley were level.
The away side then scrambled a second before Lewis Maloney forced a fine save with a goalbound free-kick.
Dom Tear again tested the impressive away keeper but there was no way through as Chorley clung on to win 2-1.
Boro boss Jono Greening spoke to SAFC TV at full-time:
"Second half, I thought we started off quite well, obviously got the goal. And then, we don't defend two set plays, one central free kick, just the second phase. Gets it back to 1-1. We need to relax a little bit. We still played some good stuff. We've got into some really good areas. We've had a few shots at goal, made the keeper work, got into some good areas where the final pass or final cross or cutback, it probably wasn't good enough. And then, they go and score a corner. We lose a man. Header. Think it's second phase again and it's in the back of our net and you end up losing the game 2-1. We potentially could have had a penalty, maybe. I think it was in the box, the one on Dom Tear. But, nothing fell for us really. And like I said, they were a good team. They were very good on set plays and we lost to two set plays."
