East Riding of Yorkshire Council has scooped an award in the prestigious Association of Public Service Excellence Service Awards 2024.
The Health and Wellbeing Group, who manage the East Riding leisure centres, Active Communities, Health Services, Commuted Sums and Active Withernsea, have won in the competitive category of Best Service Team: Sports, Leisure and Cultural Service.
The win was announced at the APSE annual charity awards dinner, in aid of Parkinson’s UK, on Thursday, 12 September 2024.
This is a National Award, beating stiff competition from across the country. The team will use their award-winning expertise to provide ongoing excellent experiences and drive forward continuous, positive development in this area.
The Health and Wellbeing Group’s vision is to deliver locally valued services that help the community to become more active and connected. One of their main goals is to help residents to achieve better health, especially those who are socially excluded. The team have worked hard to ensure that customer satisfaction remains high, signposting to services and leisure centres within the East Riding.
Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet member for leisure and tourism, said,
“Huge congratulations to everyone in the Health and Wellbeing Group who helped to achieve this prestigious award win.
‘’I am overjoyed with the team’s passion and commitment to excellence and I am sure that there will be many more achievements to celebrate in the future.’’
APSE performance network is the UK's largest voluntary data benchmarking service for local authorities, sharing information on cost, productivity, service quality and customer satisfaction across local council frontline services. This year, the awards included 17 categories, covering the majority of local services.
For the annual awards, over 200 authorities submit data which is independently validated, and compared with other authorities to see how effective services are, and identify those authorities which have shown the best performance or biggest improvements.
