A Whitby councillor has called for council housing in the town
Affordable housing in Whitby is not Affordable.
That's the view of town councillor Chris Riddols.
He's calling for for stricter restrictions to be put on future housing developments in the town to ensure social housing is delivered, and for the introduction of council housing.
Councillor Riddols says local people can's afford the housing that is deemed to be affordable.
Councillor Riddols says Whitby needs more social housing.
He says the cost of buying 'affordable' homes is beyond the average salaries of many locals, meaning many are considering leaving their home town.
Councillor Riddols feels North Yorkshire Council need to be firmer with developers.
