Trees will be planted in Yorkshire and some medals will be biodegradable as the Yorkshire Coast 10K enhances it's sustainability.
It's now less than a month until this year's Yorkshire Coast 10k.
The main race is now full, with over two thousand people taking part.
And this year the event organisers have taken further steps to make the event as sustainable as possible.
Alan Whelan from Scarborough Athletic Club says some of the medals will have very green credentials.
The children’s medals will be handmade in the UK and seeded with wild flower seeds that can be planted after the race. The 10k medals will be made from Welsh slate.
The organisers of the Yorkshire Coast 10k say they also hope to plant around five thousand trees this year to offset the races carbon emissions.
Alan Whelan says it's part of a drive to make the event as sustainable as possible.
The event has raised thousands of pounds for local good causes over recent years. Last year the race organisers were raising money for local schools. This year the event will be supporting Saint Catherine's, the Rainbow Centre and Sash.
This years 10K will take place on Sunday October 16th. Organisers are currently asking the public to suggest who should be given the role of official starter for the races. Last year, the honour was given to local Paralympic Gold Medallist Lawrence Whiteley. Scarborough Athletic Club says they would like local people to nominate a person or group of people to start the race this October.
