Whitby Town's manager has demanded an immediate improvement from his squad ahead of their Yorkshire derby at Emley, warning players their futures at the club are at risk following last week's heavy defeat.
A significant improvement in performance is required from Whitby Town as they prepare for a crucial Yorkshire derby at Emley in the NPL Premier.
The demand for higher standards follows a severe five-nil thumping last week, prompting a stark warning to the squad regarding their future at the football club.
Blues boss Graeme Lee told Whitby Town TV that the players must return to the foundational skills that brought them early success this season, rather than waiting for the game to come to them.
Speaking after last week's defeat to Stockton, Lee says it must be better at Emley:
"Yeah, it has to be, but it like said the last time told the lads it's the performance is you won't stay the team, you won't stay at the club, but like, that's that's where it is. We have to we have to improve. We have to improve, like they said, I was pleasantly surprised with the first few games and results and people listening, but then all of a sudden they've come back to some today which was nowhere near what we need and as a club, and like you said, we're not a team who's, I think that sometimes I get carried away. People think no, we're up there now and start doing things what they shouldn't do and waiting for the ball to come there instead of just doing what we've done well. What we did well the first three games was fight for everything, be around each other, win the second balls, put balls in areas, squeeze the pitch up, and we've gone away from that last two games."
Early season optimism had been built on a strong work ethic, with the team fighting for every ball and successfully squeezing the pitch.
However, recent outings have seen a departure from these core principles, leading to complacency on the pitch.
The upcoming clash at Emley provides an immediate opportunity for the Blues to rectify their recent shortcomings and prove they can return to the competitive standards expected by their manager.
