Whitby Youngster Evie Hodgson is counting down the days to her bone marrow transplant.
The 8 year old was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder during the first lockdown last year. Evie needs a bone marrow transplant to survive,
Initially it seemed that Evie had been lucky as a match for the transplant was found quickly and the procedure was planned to take place in August. But just a few weeks before the planned transplant date Evie's one and only 10/10 donor pulled out of donating their Stem Cells.
Then in December two potential Donors were found. One of them is being progressed and yesterday Evie was admitted to hospital for the seven days of preparation needed for her operation.
Her mum Tina says the operation wont be a quick fix.
Tina says the preparations for the operation have now started
"Today has been a mixed bag! Evie has generally been perky but quickly went downhill fast after a reaction to the immune suppressant treatment. Her temperature rocketed and she had severe head pain. Thankfully this is not uncommon and the nurses were quick to react to make Evie comfortable again."
Speaking on Paddy @ Breakfast Tina said day -7 went well.
Evie will spend up to eight weeks in hospital and to help pass the time she has launched her own YouTube channel documenting her journey through her eyes. Tina says the channel "is all very much Evie" and that Evie is deciding what material goes on there. She will be sharing her experiences good and bad.
Evie has launched the channel with a video offering a tour of her Hospital Room.
