Victory for Three out of Four Main Yorkshire Coast Cricket Sides

Scarborough, Whitby, Bridlington and Folkton & Flixton were all in action on Saturday and three of them picked up wins.

Scarborough were desperate to bounce back from three successive defeats in the YPN Premier Division.

Boro batted first against Sessay at North Marine Road.

Breidyn Schaper was the hero with 85 from 100 balls to anchor the innings, as the hosts scrapped to 183/8 from their 50 overs.

Youngster Ed Hopper was the next-highest scorer with 28. Scarborough recovered from 17/3 to put a competitive total on the board, with Linden Gray (14) sticking around to add 71 with Schaper to then take Boro to 155/6.

The home bowlers then destroyed their opponents with Pat Roberts taking 2/6 and Guy Emmett 1/6 before Daniel Robson picked up an astonishing 5/9. Gray also added a scalp as Sessay never recovered from being 3/3 and 20/8, eventually being skittled for just 47 in the 21st over- Scarborough winning by 136 runs.

In the YPN Championship, Folkton & Flixton are up to fifth after edging a thrilling run chase, by four wickets, at Easingwold.

Having to field first in scorching conditions, the visitors reduced Easingwold to 43/2, but the hosts recovered to post a challenging 260/9 from their 50 overs.

Max Harland took 4/68 and Charlie Colley 1/77, while Connor Stephenson impressed with an economic 2/43.

In reply, the villagers fell to 41/2 as the two innings seemed to mirror each other.

Skipper Harry Walmsley was the hero with 88 from 94 balls, putting on 65 with Elliot Hatton (43) and 89 with Jake Hatton (46 not out) as Folkton & Flixton went from 79/3 to 233/4.

Hatton and Stephenson combined at the end to steer in-form Folkton & Flixton to a sixth successive victory, by four wickets- the winning runs were hit in the penultimate over.

In the same division, third-bottom Bridlington couldn't make it a clean sweep for our major local sides.

They won the toss, at Pickering, and batted first with John Major dominating the innings with an unbeaten century.

Josh Mainprize's 41 and Casey Rudd's 27 proved useful- Major then combined well with skipper Russell Robinson (26) to put on 53 as Brid moved from 78/3 to 131/4.

Major then took over and steered Brid to 252/9 from their 50 overs.

Hosts Pickering, are also having a tough season, but proved formidable with the bat- racking up three half-centuries.

Rudd was the pick of the bowlers with 1/48, Robinson took 2/38 and there were wickets for Major and Ricky Robinson.

It was tense right until the end, but the home side got home, by five wickets, with five balls to spare.

Whitby climbed out of the North Yorkshire South Durham First Division bottom two with a fine home win over Wolviston.

Kai Morris won the toss and opted to bat first at the Turnbull Ground.

Joe Padmore (36) and Theo Clarke (31) built strong foundations at the top of the order.

The experienced Paul Buck, with 69 from 54 balls, took Whitby over 200, thanks to a destructive innings, featuring four sixes.

Whitby were eventually bowled out from the final ball of their 50 overs for a useful 231.

The home bowlers then reduced Wolviston to 36/2. While Tom Steyert picked up 3/67, it was the slower bowlers who proved hard to get away.

Spinner Mark Jackson decimated the visitors with 4/66 and Morris himself took 2/50 as the away side were bowled out for 205 with nearly ten overs left, securing a 26-run win for Whitby.
