A 33-year-old man was arrested on charges of drink driving and failing to stop for police
The incident unfolded shortly after 10pm on Monday in the Newby area when the rider of a grey Sym moped failed to comply with a marked police vehicle's signal to stop.
According to a statement from North Yorkshire Police, a brief pursuit followed, culminating when the rider lost control, leaving the road and mounting the pavement. After the pursuit, the individual was subjected to a roadside breath test, which he failed, leading to his immediate arrest.
The police confirmed that the man was taken into custody and later charged with the offences. He is scheduled to appear in court next month to face the charges.
Police say the incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety and the dangers posed by impaired driving. Local authorities continue to urge the public to report any suspicious behaviour that could compromise safety on the roads.
