An ongoing initiative aimed at combating the theft of mopeds and motorcycles has been launched by the Eastfield and Filey Neighbourhood Policing Team, yielding positive results in the community.
Dubbed "Operation Scooter," the operation is focused on identifying vehicles vulnerable to theft, preventing further incidents, and pinpointing hotspots and offenders.
The NPT has been actively engaging with moped and motorcycle owners, providing essential security advice under the motto “Trace, Lock, Cover.” This guidance includes recommendations on improving vehicle security through enhanced CCTV systems and effective lighting solutions.
In addition to community engagement, the operation has seen an increase in proactive patrols during the night. Officers have been deployed in both high visibility foot and vehicle patrols, alongside a tactical unmarked presence in key locations to deter potential thieves.
Sergeant Holly Hornsby of Eastfield and Filey NPT remarked,
“Our coordinated approach, involving security advice, identifying our key areas and targeted patrols have helped reduce thefts as part of the operation.”
This collaborative effort aims to reassure the community and enhance the safety of local vehicle owners.
While the operation employs various tactics to address the issue, specific details remain undisclosed to protect the integrity of the initiative.
Residents are encouraged to contribute to community safety by registering any CCTV, doorbell cameras, or motion-activated dash cams with the local digital evidence system. This step is vital in creating a network of vigilance that can assist in crime prevention.
For those interested in staying updated on community safety matters, the NPT regularly communicates through North Yorkshire Community Messaging, ensuring that local residents are informed about relevant issues and initiatives.
Individuals with information regarding thefts or any criminal activity in their neighbourhood are urged to contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111, reinforcing the community’s role in maintaining safety and security.
