Scarborough UTC Celebrates Record-Breaking GCSE Results

Scarborough UTC has announced its best-ever GCSE results since opening.

The UTC has stated its delight with what students have achieved, noting particular successes across core subjects and specialist areas.

In English, 85% of students secured at least a standard pass, a figure the UTC reported as "far surpassing the national position". Mathematics results followed closely, with 72% of students achieving a pass.

A notable area of success was in engineering manufacture, where students achieved results that "exceed the national position by over 20%". Scarborough UTC attributed these strong outcomes to the support students received through "specialist equipment, employer sponsorship and workshop experience".

Among the individual achievements highlighted was that of Max Atton, who "worked tirelessly" to complete 11 GCSEs. Max secured an impressive nine grades at 8 or above, including a Grade 9 in Further Maths.

Beyond academic results, Scarborough UTC emphasised that "the UTC experience is not just about results". The institution provides annual work experience for all students from Year 10 to Year 13, with plans for next year to include work experience abroad as part of the Turing scheme. Additionally, half-termly experiences, trips, and workshops are integral to the UTC's approach, aiming to "secure strong futures in the fields of engineering, health and digital pathways".

Looking to the future, Scarborough UTC confirmed it is still accepting applications for its vibrant Sixth Form, where students can study A levels and specialist courses. The UTC also announced that applications for the new Year 9 intake for 2026 will be opening imminently, anticipating "high demand" for the 90 available places.

The UTC said:

"Last week the UTC was delighted to achieve Sixth form results averaging at distinction grade (equivalent to grade A at A level) in our specialist areas of Engineering, Digital and Health. As a result of achieving first place in the national finals in the F1 in schools' competition (STEM racing), one student was offered a fully paid place to study Mechanical Engineering at Aston University, his excellent D*D* grades in Engineering meant he was able to secure this offer and all our year 13 students were able to progress successfully onto destinations of their choice, most moving onto STEM related careers, apprenticeships and Higher Education.

Now this week at GCSE we are celebrating the best ever GCSE results the UTC has seen since opening.

We are still accepting students into our vibrant sixth form to study A levels and specialist courses, please do drop into the UTC to meet staff today; bring your results, or alternatively email info@scarboroughutc.org.uk to arrange a meeting. In addition, we will be opening up applications for the new Year 9 for 2026 imminently, we are certain that there will be high demand for our 90 places, get in quick and use the application form on our website to apply"
