Volunteers at Scarborough Uniform Recycle are making a significant impact by providing free school uniforms and essential clothing items to families in need this week.
The initiative, spearheaded by dedicated volunteers aims to alleviate the financial burden of school attire for local families.
The program offers both branded and unbranded uniforms, along with PE kits, shoes, and coats, all generously donated by members of the public via a recycling point at Sainsbury’s, located near the checkouts.
The clothing provided through Scarborough Uniform Recycle can be collected free of charge, with no questions asked, ensuring accessibility for all families.
Upcoming giveaway events are taking place at Westborough Methodist Church in Scarborough today (August 20th) from 10 AM to noon, Thursday from 1 PM to 6 PM and again from 6 PM to 8 PM, and Friday from 10 AM to noon.

Scarborough and Whitby MP Alison Hume, who visited the volunteers, expressed her admiration for their efforts, stating, “I want to say how impressed I was with their work.” She highlighted the importance of this initiative, particularly in light of new government regulations set to take effect next September. According to these regulations, schools will only require parents to purchase three branded items of uniform, along with an optional branded tie for secondary schools.
This initiative not only addresses the immediate needs of families but also promotes sustainability through clothing recycling, fostering a sense of community and support among residents.
