Barrowcliff School says a large number of pupils are having to self isolate making it difficult to deliver in-school classes.
Head Teacher Mark Rogers sent a letter to parents yesterday saying that the entire school would be moving to remote learning today and that there wont be any lessons in the school buildings this side of the Christmas break.
In the letter Mr Rogers said.
"As you may be aware, we have had to ask a number of class bubbles to isolate due to positive Covid-19 tests. In order to support all our pupils, the decision has been made that school will not be open to pupils from today and we will move to remote learning for ALL PUPILS from Tuesday 15th December until Thursday 17th December."
Teachers are supporting children's home learning using the class messaging system. Pupils are being set work on the school website.
Mr Rogers continues..
"If your child is entitled to Free School Meals, you will receive vouchers in the post for the school days your child has missed this week and for the Christmas holidays Whilst this is not the way we wanted to end the term, we want to make sure we can provide for all children, whilst being as safe as possible. Everyone at school wishes you all a great holiday, stay safe, and we’ll see you back here for the start of the spring term on Tuesday 5th January. "
On Saturday the School said that two members of Class 7 had tested positive for COVID-19 and that the class would move to home learning from Monday.
On Sunday it was confirmed a member of Class 9 had also tested positive and that class would also move to home learning from Monday.
Then later on Sunday the school announced that following a number of positive Covid-19 tests in school, children in all their Nursery, Reception and KS1 bubbles need to isolate until 21st December. The School said that "all of these groups need to isolate as we cannot be certain which children in each bubble may have been in contact with those that have tested positive."
With so many classes affected the school have now taken the decision to focus their efforts on providing remote learning and move all pupils to the remote learning system. The School buildings will be closed to all pupils until January 5th.
