Scarborough Amateur Rowing Club are hoping to attract new people to the sport this month as they stage a major recruitment drive.
Scarborough Amateur Rowing Club have been on the town's foreshore for 157 years and are looking for new members as they launch their 'Dry January'.
They say the club offers a real goal to work towards which is improving strength and fitness and using it to get in a boat and work with a crew to race with over summer.
The club's captain is Megan Wilson:
"We are looking for some new members at Scarborough Rowing Club this January. We kick off every year with our dry January indoor rowing program. It's for anyone to come and join us for some free indoor rowing sessions. While we're off the water for winter, we're open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings at 6:00 PM for anyone that I'd like to come and give it a try.
"We're a friendly and welcoming club, open to all ages 11 plus and all fitness levels."
Megan says the encouragement from her fellow rowers brings out the drive in everyone during training and makes it fun instead of a chore to come down and work out:
"We're looking for people that want to try something new to either get started or improve their fitness level, as well as people that are already sporty and competitive, just looking for a new sport to really sink their teeth into.
"If you join us now and stick with us until spring, I promise you won't get a better view of Scarborough than from out on the water in a boat with us.
"Get in touch and find out more on Facebook or Instagram or email us at Scarboroughrowing@gmail.com. Hope to see you there."
The club say they have by far the best view you’re ever going to get of Scarborough, sat in one of their boats in the bay looking back to the shore, but the sea at this time of year isn’t too friendly, so members are cosy training in the clubhouse on the foreshore until Spring.
