A maintenance assistant at a Scarborough retirement community has been named as a finalist for a prestigious national social care award.
A Scarborough retirement community is celebrating after one of its colleagues was named as a finalist for an industry-recognised social care award.
Jonathan Bell, who works as a Maintenance Assistant at Sanctuary Supported Living’s Jazz Court, has been shortlisted for the Care Handyman or Person Award at the upcoming 2026 Housing with Care Awards.
In his role, Jonathan supports the day-to-day running of Jazz Court, a Scarborough-based retirement community service which provides apartments and communal facilities for people aged over fifty-five.
His duties involve carrying out essential repairs and maintenance work that helps ensure residents can live in safe, comfortable, and well-maintained homes.
The Director of Sanctuary Supported Living, Dave Shaw, praised the achievement and highlighted the importance of staff members who work out of the public eye.
Dave Shaw said:
"This recognition really matters because it shines a light on the people who work behind-the-scenes. Colleagues like Jonathan play a vital role in creating safe, well run homes, and the pride and care they bring to their work makes a real difference to residents’ everyday lives."
Sanctuary Supported Living has seen significant recognition this year, having been shortlisted for a total of nine Housing with Care awards.
The winners of the awards will be announced at a glamorous gala event on Friday the 5th of June, taking place at the Hilton London Bankside.
In addition to the Housing with Care Awards, the organisation has also been named among the finalists at the Housing Heroes Awards in two separate categories.
They are in the running for the Best Company Health and Wellbeing Initiative and Employer of the Year for Housing Providers.
The organisation states that this reflects its purpose-led approach and commitment to supporting both colleagues and customers to be their best.
Sanctuary Supported Living is part of the leading UK housing and care provider, Sanctuary, which provides personalised care and support through supported housing to people across England.
Established in 1969, Sanctuary is responsible for the provision of social housing, care, and management services, operating on a not-for-profit basis where surpluses are reinvested into affordable housing and the maintenance of existing properties.
