It went all the way down to the final day as Scarborough Cricket Club looked to secure their Yorkshire Premier North top tier survival.
Boro knew they had to equal rivals Beverley's points tally on the final outing of the campaign, at Sessay, on Saturday.
Winning the toss and choosing to bat first at the village near Thirsk, Boro piled on the runs.
Robert Pinder was the hero with 106, though wicket-keeper Ben Gill added a more-than-useful 49 not out.
The visitors eventually posted 222/5 from their 50 overs.
In reply, Jack Redshaw struck with his first legal delivery resulting in a successful lbw appeal.
Sessay never recovered and were dismissed for just 166, in the 44th over.
Redshaw took 3/34 with three wickets each for Muhammad Ayub and Clarke Doughney- Corey Hart took the other Sessay scalp.
Boro won by 56 runs and safeguarded their YPN Premier Division status.
Folkton & Flixton's hopes of joining Scarborough next season were dashed, meanwhile, after a derby defeat at Bridlington, in the YPN Championship East.
Brid won the toss and batted with wicket-keeper Sam Wragg made 39, before he was caught and bowled by Zain Maqsood first up.
Will Norman anchored the innings superbly with an unbeaten 75 as Brid posted 220/8 from their 50 overs.
The impressive Callum Hatton took 3/28 with two wickets each for Maqsood and Elliot Hatton, plus one for Harry Walmsley.
The visitors made a strong start to their reply with Will Hutchinson making 30, but on his departure, 72/2 quickly became 90 all out.
Elliot Traves was the hero with 6/23, Ricky Robinson took 2/4 and one each for Ben Traves and Casey Rudd.
The 130-run defeat leaves the villagers 18 points behind second-placed Hull Zingari, meaning their promotion chase is all but over.
Brid give themselves a chance of leapfrogging their local rivals as they're up to fifth, just four points and one place behind now.
In North Yorkshire South Durham Division One, Whitby moved out of the relegation zone at the expense of rivals Rockliffe Park.
Choosing to field first, two quick Joel Lloyd wickets left the Middlesbrough side 20/2 at the Turnbull Ground.
Lloyd ended with 3/52 and there were two wickets each for Ricky Hall and the recalled James Fawcett.
Steve Allen then wrapped up the tail with three wickets for five runs in less than three overs as Park slipped from 168/7 to 172 all out.
Lloyd then picked up the bat and fired 57-ball half century. Fawcett was more watchful but unlucky to end up unbeaten on 49, with Tom Steyert making a run a ball 45.
Whitby reached their target with 13 overs to spare and just two wickets down to move out of the bottom two.
It means they just need to match Rockliffe, on the final day, next weekend, to survive.
