The Seadogs suffered their first defeat of 2026 in heart-breaking fashion.
After a goal-less first half, Fylde took the lead after the interval.
The second-placed Coasters were then hit by a Lewis Maloney special, moments later.
The ex-Middlesbrough midfielder sent a beautiful free-kick up over the Fylde defensive wall and into the net for 1-1.
That's how it stayed until the Lancashire outfit struck with a second on 86 minutes.
Speaking after the final whistle, Boro boss Jono Greening paid tribute to his side's efforts:
"Really proud of the players, to be honest with you. I think we've come here and again, probably one of the best footballing teams in the league, bar South Shields, technically very good players, good football brains. They really cause problems with the passing out from the back and the rotation all over the pitch.
"First 15, 20 minutes we were struggling. We had to change shape, which helped us a little bit. But in terms of my players I thought the work ethic and attitude was spot on today.
"We knew we had to work hard. We did well to get back in the game. And then I think, we conceded, I think it was the 86th minute, we battled so hard to try and get a point. We're in the game. We looked good, we looked comfortable. I think wit probably should catch it. I think he palms it with his left hand, probably should catch it. But listen, he's been brilliant for us over the last few weeks. He's been playing really well recently. He's made some unbelievable saves and games to get his points. Every player makes mistakes. So we have to go again."
