Club Chairman Trevor Bull says there has been an outpouring of support for Scarborough Athletic after the news this week that its home ground may not be usable next season.
Scarborough Athletic Football Club is experiencing a "potentially life threatening" situation following the news that its home ground at the North Yorkshire Council-owned pitch in the Scarborough Sports Village may not be available for the upcoming 2025/26 season.
This week has been described as a "chaotic week" for the club as the extent of the pitch issues became clear. Initially thought to affect only the start of the season, the problems are now understood to be "considerably more extensive and complex" due to "serious structural issues including a defective drainage system" identified by a recent site survey. As a result, "the pitch will not be available for competitive fixtures for the start of next season" and the council are unable to say when repairs might get underway.
In an interview with This is the Coast Club Chairman, Trevor Bull says that in light of this uncertainty, Scarborough Athletic has received an outpouring of support from various quarters.
Trevor says that everyone involved in the club over the last 18 years has worked hard to build the community owned club and he feels local politicians and business see the value it brings to the town.
Local politicians have offered their assistance, with Allison Hume MP planning to attend the final home game of the season on Easter Monday.
Local businesses have also shown their support. Supporters are being called upon to show their solidarity with Trevor Bull urging supporters to attend their final home game against Darlington on Monday to "show what this club means to us" and to demonstrate the significant impact the situation will have.
The Board of Directors of Scarborough Athletic FC has assured stakeholders of their commitment to working with all parties to minimise the impact of this news and will provide updates as the situation progresses. While Trevor Bull acknowledged that work is ongoing at both the club and the council, he could not provide a timeline for further developments.
The club's first target is to find a way to play football at their current stadium next season, and they are actively exploring all possibilities, engaging with relevant individuals.
