Boro this time were contesting the Jeff Barmby Memorial Trophy.
They lost to NPL East outfit North Ferriby United after being held 2-2.
United led on 15 minutes and stayed in front at the interval.
Boro were level, within five minutes of the second half. Harry Green's excellent work set up Mo Fadera to fire into the roof of the net.
The same combination then brought the Seadogs' second after sustained Scarborough pressure.
This time, Fadera's shot was saved but Rio Allen was on hand to find the net for 2-1.
Within five minutes, the home side levelled from the penalty spot.
We went to penalty kicks at 2-2 with all scored by Lewis Maloney, Luca Stuttard, Rio Allan, Harry Green and Mo Fadera. Alex Wiles then had his effort saved as Ferriby won 5-4.
After the match, Boro boss Jono Greening told SAFC TV he thought the afternoon was ideal despite the result:
" I thought it was a really good game. I thought North Ferriby were excellent. They worked really hard, and they had a really good shape about them. They competed all over the pitch. It was probably exactly what we needed, to be honest with you. We've had two real tough games this week- Bridlington and, North Ferriby both very similar. I think it's good for us because we'll play against teams like that in our league next year, that's for sure. So in terms of pre-season, that's what you want. And like I said, I thought they competed really well. They really got stuck in and it was a proper game which is what we needed."
