Children across the East Riding can enjoy free swimming sessions and a packed programme of summer activities at leisure centres in Bridlington, Hornsea, Driffield, and Withernsea.
A host of fun activities and free swimming sessions are set to be held at East Riding Leisure sites, aiming to keep youngsters entertained throughout the school summer holidays.
Parents and carers across the region have been promised a reliable way to keep children busy, active, and engaged at local leisure centres, offering a perfect solution no matter what the British summer weather brings.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has confirmed that its leisure centres will be running comprehensive summer holiday activity programmes. These dedicated schedules are packed full of ideas and activities designed for children of all ages to enjoy.
Among the highlights of the summer programme are bouncy castles and games, aqua fun sessions, and a wide variety of sports hall activities, ensuring there is plenty to choose from for local families.
In addition to the varied schedule of activities, East Riding Leisure has announced that it will also be offering free swimming sessions for all children aged sixteen and under throughout the entirety of the summer holidays.
From Saturday the 18th of July until Sunday the 6th of September, each participating leisure centre will run two hour-long free sessions per week. This initiative is exclusively available for children aged between three and sixteen years old who live within the East Riding.
Participating venues on the Yorkshire Coast and in the Wolds include the popular leisure centres located in Bridlington, Hornsea, Driffield, and Withernsea.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism, Councillor Nick Coultish, said:
"East Riding Leisure have put together a fantastic programme of activities for children and young people this summer, with something to suit all interests and ages.
These activities provide a great opportunity for families to spend quality time together, stay active and make the most of the holiday period.
We’re also very pleased to be bringing back free swimming sessions. We know the summer holidays can place extra pressure on household budgets, so we hope as many families as possible take advantage of this popular offer."
The council has advised residents that there is no need to book the free swimming sessions in advance, as they will be allocated strictly on a first-come, first-served basis at each venue.
For safety reasons, under-eights must be accompanied by an adult at all times, and standard adult swimming fees will apply during these sessions. However, the council noted that children under the age of three are permitted to swim for free at any time.
Families have been provided with a specific timetable for the free swimming sessions across the coastal and Wolds towns.
For families living in or visiting Bridlington, the free sessions will take place twice a week, specifically on Tuesdays and Fridays, running between 5pm and 6pm on both days.
In Hornsea, the free swimming hour will be held on Mondays from 5pm to 6pm, although the council notes there will be no session on the bank holiday Monday, the 31st of August. An additional weekend session will run on Sundays between 11am and 12 noon.
Driffield residents can access their local free sessions during the week on Wednesdays from 4pm to 5pm, and again at the weekend on Sundays from 11am to 12 noon.
Meanwhile, in Withernsea, the designated free swimming times are scheduled for Fridays between 4pm and 5pm, and on Sundays from 10am to 11am.
