Scarborough Athletic Chairman Trevor Bull has issued a strong appeal to supporters to turn out in force for tomorrow’s crucial National League North home fixture against Leamington, emphasising the financial necessity of increased attendance.
The match is scheduled for this Saturday, 11th October, with a 3pm kick-off. It will be held at the Seadogs' temporary home, The Mounting Systems Stadium in Bridlington, where Boro are playing all of their home games this season while repair work is carried out on the pitch at the Scarborough Sports Village.
Scarborough Athletic currently sit second in the National League North standings with 20 points. The club is only three points shy of table leaders South Shields (23 points), but they have several teams close behind, with Chorley and AFC Fylde both tied on 19 points, making every league fixture vital.
Chairman Bull acknowledged the commitment already demonstrated by the faithful supporters who travel to the temporary venue, but says that more backing is required to support the club’s operations.
Speaking about the dedication of those making the journey, Mr Bull said:
"We're immensely grateful to all our supporters are making that 17-mile journey down to Bridlington and it's very much appreciated and certainly they are creating a great atmosphere for the players to play in front of and the players are enjoying that side of it as well.
It's probably not enough for what we need which increased crowd would definitely help our finances. If anyone can get there great and if they can't please join up to our count me in campaign to to make a generous donation because whilst we love people to be there, unashamedly, it's the money we're after."
The Seadogs enter the weekend clash looking to maintain their 100% home record and extend their unbeaten league run to ten games. Boro also boast a strong historical record against their opponents, having secured two home wins and two away draws in their four previous meetings, remaining yet to be defeated by Leamington.
Leamington, known as ‘The Brakes,’ arrive having had a mixed start to the season, currently placed 15th with 11 points from nine games played.
The match will also be significant for defender Kieran Weledji, who is set to make his 200th appearance for the club against Leamington.
