Alison Hume, MP for Scarborough and Whitby visited two key community health facilities in Scarborough who provide vital contributions to local healthcare and wellbeing.
Cayton View Care Home Alison Hume met with Leah Moon, the manager of Cayton View, to thank the team for their support in accommodating the Eastfield District Nursing team. The home, which currently accommodates 30 residents and offers residential and dementia care including end-of-life support, has generously provided space for the Eastfield District Nursing team to work indoors on their second floor until Eastfield Medical Centre is re-opened.
Alison Hume, MP for Scarborough and Whitby, said:
“Cayton View has shown incredible community spirit by opening its doors to our brilliant district nurses. This practical support makes a real difference to patient care and demonstrates the strength of collaboration in our area.”
Leah Moon, General Manager at Cayton View Care Home, said:
“When we heard about the flooding and the challenge facing our local surgery, we knew it was the right thing to do. We have a strong relationship with our local healthcare teams, and our home has the space and facilities to help. It’s been a pleasure to support the Eastfield Medical Centre team and to see our residents enjoy having the buzz of another community service operating alongside us. We’re one community, and we look out for each other.”

Cayton View, now operated by Care UK, boasts modern facilities including a garden room and cinema room, and maintains strong links with local services such as Saint Catherine’s Hospice.
Saint Catherine’s Hospice Ms Hume also visited Saint Catherine’s Hospice to thank them for housing Eastfield Medical Centre and providing consulting rooms for local clinicians. Ms Hume toured the hospice’s facilities, including its spa bathroom, and praised the team for their commitment to community health.
She added:
“Saint Catherine’s is at the heart of our community, not only delivering compassionate end-of-life care but also supporting wider health services like Eastfield Medical Centre. Their dedication and innovation are inspiring.”
“I was especially impressed by the touching written message and Christmas doors – a wonderful touch that brings joy to patients and staff alike.”
Saint Catherine’s continues to expand its services, including a seven-day Clinical Nurse Specialist community service and enhanced inpatient facilities, supported by fundraising and donations. Two thirds of their costs are met through fundraising and donations.
Jo Sayles, Clinical Services Director at Saint Catherine’s, said:
“We are proud to be one of the first organisations to support Eastfield Medical Centre by providing consulting rooms here at Saint Catherine’s, alongside our commitment to compassionate care for patients and families across Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale.”
“Partnerships like these strengthen local healthcare and ensure people receive the support they need when they need it most. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported Saint Catherine’s and helped us to continue delivering vital care and support for our community.”
