Residents Invited To Shape Scarborough's £19.5 Million Future

People living and working in Scarborough are being urged to join a neighbourhood board overseeing a £19.5 million investment programme over the next decade.

A massive £19.5 million investment programme will shape the future of Scarborough over the next decade.

Residents and workers are now being urged to step forward and help guide the delivery of these major improvements by joining the Scarborough Neighbourhood Board, but the closing date is this week.

The long-term funding comes from the Pride in Place programme, an initiative designed to make a visible and lasting difference to everyday life in the town. Future projects will focus on upgrading local places and facilities, alongside activities that strengthen communities, create opportunities, and boost health and wellbeing.

The Scarborough Neighbourhood Board will lead this initiative locally. The group already brings together representatives from local businesses, education, public services, voluntary organisations, and community groups. Now, a search is underway for new members to bring fresh ideas and different perspectives to the table.

Up to £19.5 million in Government funding will flow into the town over the next ten years. The Pride in Place scheme aims to ensure Scarborough continues to grow as a vibrant place to live, work, and visit. It focuses heavily on supporting local priorities and building pride and confidence across the community.

The programme relies on visible improvements, active community involvement, and ensuring that local people maintain a strong voice in determining the town's future direction.

Applications are open to people of all ages and backgrounds who live or work in Scarborough. However, there is a specific push to recruit younger voices to ensure the next generation has a say in the town's development.

A spokesperson for the Pride in Place programme said:

"Applications are welcomed from people of all ages and backgrounds, although the Board is particularly keen to hear from young people aged between 18 and 30. No previous board experience is required. What matters is having something useful to contribute, a genuine commitment to Scarborough and the enthusiasm to get involved."

While prior board experience is not necessary, officials are particularly interested in applicants with specific professional or community backgrounds. Desired areas of expertise include project management, programme delivery, and security or community safety.

Those with a background in business leadership, entrepreneurship, regeneration, construction, or infrastructure are also heavily encouraged to apply. Furthermore, experience in finance, governance, risk management, commercial, legal, or strategic leadership would be highly valued by the board.

Organisers added:

"People with experience in other areas are also encouraged to apply if they believe they could make a positive contribution. Board members will help shape the direction of Pride in Place, oversee the progress of projects and work with residents, businesses, community organisations and local partners."

The board positions are entirely voluntary. Successful candidates will be expected to attend quarterly board meetings, alongside occasional additional gatherings, engagement activities, and specific Task and Finish Groups when required.
