Kingfishers swimmers have enjoyed a fantastic Winter Yorkshire Championships campaign, producing a host of personal bests, top 10 finishes and qualifying times across two weekends of competition in Sheffield and Leeds.
The club’s senior swimmers took to the pool in John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds over the weekend 10/11 October. Ten swimmers completed 27 swims, achieving 18 personal bests (a 67% PB rate) and securing five top 10 finishes.
The age-group swimmers continued the club's success when they competed in Sheffield the following weekend with an outstanding set of performances, showcasing the hard work, dedication and progress made in training. Across 13 swimmers and 69 swims, the team recorded an incredible 59 personal bests (an 85% PB rate) alongside 17 top-10 finishes and six additional North East Regional (NER) qualifying times.
The age-group team’s top 10 results included two fourth-place finishes, three fifths, five sevenths, two eighths, three ninths and two tenths, highlighting the strength and consistency of the performances throughout the competition.
Combining the age-group and senior results, Kingfishers finished the Winter Yorkshire Championships campaign with some fantastic overall statistics:
* **23 swimmers** representing the club
* **96 swims** completed
* **77 personal bests**
* **80% overall personal-best rate**
* **22 top-10 finishes**
* **Six additional NER qualifying times** achieved by the age-group team
The overall 80% personal-best rate is a tremendous achievement and reflects the swimmers’ commitment, determination and continued development. With 22 top-10 finishes across both weekends, there was plenty to celebrate, with swimmers demonstrating that their hard work is translating into results on the competition stage.
The club expressed a special thank you to their poolside team including Jess Bulman, Sara Bisby Owen and Dan Sellers for supporting the team, keeping everyone organised, prepared and ready to race on time throughout the two weekends. Their support helped ensure the swimmers could focus on delivering their best performances.
Coach Tom Wilkinson said:
“As coaches, it was an honour to be part of your weekend. Thank you to all the swimmers for your efforts, commitment and attitude and a huge well done to everyone involved.”
Attention now turns to the North Eastern Regional Championships (31 October /1 November) before the club re-focusses on Spring 2027 Yorkshire Championships, with swimmers already beginning to look ahead to their next targets.
With confidence building, personal bests falling and new qualifying times being achieved, the Winter Yorkshire Championships have provided a brilliant platform for the season ahead.
