After going a goal behind early on, Scarborough pulled level. But, despite Boro's best efforts in worsening weather, it was Bedford who bagged the winner from the penalty spot.
A harsh late blow condemned Scarborough Athletic to a narrow 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Bedford Town on a bitterly cold afternoon in Scarborough. In a game full of near-misses and woodwork frustrations for the Seadogs, it was a dramatic penalty ten minutes from time that ultimately separated the two sides.

Action-Packed First Half
The match sparked into life early with both sides trading blows. The visitors struck first in the 14th minute when Joe Payne curled a free-kick directly into the back of the net after Luke Hall had picked up an early booking for a foul on the edge of the box.
Boro didn't let their heads drop. After Rio Allan saw a close-range effort blocked following excellent work by Harvey Vincent, the Seadogs found their equalizer in the 28th minute. A well-delivered corner found the rising Will Thornton, who powered a brilliant header past the Bedford goalkeeper to make it 1-1.

Tensions began to fray before the break, with Jake Hull picking up a yellow card to stop a Bedford counter-attack following a misplaced pass from Ryan Whitley, and Alfie Thornett for Bedford also seeing yellow for a rash challenge.
Woodwork and Near Misses
Jono Greening introduced Mo Fadera for Luke Hall at the interval, and the substitute was immediately involved in Boro's pressing second-half display. In the 57th minute, Whitley produced a superb low save to keep the scores level before Scarborough completely took control.
The Seadogs were agonisingly denied by the elements in the 59th minute when Luca Colville’s whipped corner was caught by the wind and crashed directly off the crossbar. Moments later, Fadera missed a golden opportunity with a back-post header, before forcing the Bedford keeper into a phenomenal full-stretch save in the 73rd minute. Alex Wiles also tested the opposition custodian from the edge of the box as Boro pushed relentlessly for a winner.
Late Heartbreak from the Spot
Greening threw on Dom Tear and Kieran Wledji to replace Waldron and Vincent to sustain the pressure, but the game turned completely against the run of play in the 79th minute.
Captain Will Thornton went from hero to villain as he committed a foul inside the area, leaving the referee with no choice but to point to the spot.
Bedford's Moncur stepped up in the 80th minute and coolly converted the penalty to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
In a frantic five minutes of added time, goalkeeper Ryan Whitley even pushed up into the opposition box for a 95th-minute corner, but Bedford held firm under intense pressure to secure all three points.
Boro boss Jono Greening said it was a battling performance, but not without errors:
Scarborough next travel to Morecambe on Halloween (31st October).
